Discussion Leader: These questions are designed to start the conversation off easily, focusing on the story and characters, then leading to lessons learned in the readers’ lives.

The first words of Coral Moon reveal a character with nothing to win and everything to lose. How does this desperation drive the action of the opening chapters? Have you ever been driven to desperate measures in your own life?

Leslie Brymes feels a strange sensation on the back of her neck as she gets ready for her day. What do you think prompted this sensation? Do you think there is a connection between her feeling and what she finds in her car the same morning?

Helen Communs feels called to pray for Leslie in the midst of a seemingly normal morning. Where do you think this urging came from? Have you ever felt such urgency in prayer?

Vesta’s neighbor Wilma claims that Vesta’s husband Henry has come back from the dead. What was your initial reaction to the claim?

Throughout the first chapters, several characters feel sensations they can’t define. Then high school student Ali refers to a note she found and “the Powers.” Do you think there’s a connection between these undefined feelings and the supernatural? Can you identify?

Pastor Hank talks to Leslie about a passage in the Bible in 1 Samuel. Read 1 Samuel 28 and discuss its implications in your life. Is there any connection between this passage and what’s happening in Kanner Lake? Where is God in the midst of this?

Ali’s new friends at school claim they called up the ghost of Henry Johnson. Do you think there is a connection between the students and the murders?

As more details about the murders are revealed, Ali finally shares key information with Leslie. What would you do with such information? How would you engage in this spiritual warfare?

S-Man always seems to be lost in his own world of Sauria. Yet when Leslie seems headed for danger, Ted steps up and goes with Leslie. What drives him to become her protector? Who in your life has stepped up for you when you needed it most?

After the apprehension of the killer, Vince talks with Pastor Hank about the spiritual forces at work in his case. Discuss Pastor Hank’s assessment. Do you agree? Why or why not?

Pastor Hank claims that the evil forces will stay away from Kanner Lake through increased prayer and increased awareness through his preaching. Do you agree with his assessment? What will you take from his words into your own life?
